The Hannay Rollneck takes its name from the heroic lead character of John Buchan’s famous novel The Thirty-Nine Steps – Richard Hannay. Published in 1915, the story thrust the character of Major General Sir Richard Hannay into a world of international espionage and deadly intrigue. Hannay travelled the length of the United Kingdom, from the rugged hills of Scotland down to the beaches of southern England, seeking to uncover the conspiracy that would plunge his beloved nation into war.

The novel was first adapted for screen in 1935 by Alfred Hitchcock, with Hannay portrayed by the dashing and debonair Robert Donat. Since then, it has had countless screen and stage adaptations, and Hannay has been played by Kenneth More, Robert Powell, and Rupert Penry-Jones.

This rollneck jumper in celtic green and natural grey strikes a distinctive two-tone, evoking the wild moors and rocky cliffs featured in this most pre-eminent of British novels.

This traditionally designed rollneck has a high waistband that can be pulled down or folded over. Warm and versatile, this all-wool pullover is an essential part of anyone’s wardrobe.
