About Stanley Biggs Clothiers

Located in the beautiful Midlands of England, Stanley Biggs Clothiers is a heritage clothing brand, unashamedly inspired by the past, in both style and spirit.

History provides a constant source of inspiration to our range of knitwear, shirts, caps and apparel.
Both tradition and quality flow through the very heart of what we do; bringing together the finest in British manufacturing, textiles and design resulting in a range of unique and versatile clothing that will last you a life time.
The aim is to capture a part of our heritage that you can take with you on your next adventure, wherever that may lead.

In 1919, Stanley Douglas Biggs was born in London. He joined up at the outbreak of the Second World War, serving as a medical orderly in 181 Airlanding Field Ambulance Unit, Royal Army Medical Corps. His unit was part of the Airlanding Forces that took part in the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds on 25th September 1944 and is buried in Oosterbeek Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.

It is in his memory that the brand was created by founder, Sophie Bainbridge.

Founded in 2019, the brand has grown from strength to strength, with each year being a stepping stone onto something new. It is has been great to look back and try to summarise our formative years for our customers to read.

2019 was certainly our year of discovery and building a name for ourselves. We attended a record number of tradeshows, working tirelessly to establish our reputation, especially with our gorgeous knitwear range. We honestly could not have done it without support and encouragement from friends and family.

Amazingly, Stanley was photographed 17th/18th September 1944 at Duitsekampweg, Wolfheze.

2020 saw us build on our foundations by listening to our customers.

With customers based all over the world, and from all walks of life, we learnt the brand is recognised and trusted for its authenticity and quality. We realised our customers love our independence, uniqueness and our honest approach. Something we fully intend on keeping as we continue.

We also learnt that our love for history is also shared by our customers. Thats when we decided to create The Biggs Journal.

Our journal of history, adventure and style allows us to showcase what inspires us; from literature to the development of a garment. So, alongside the naming of each garment after a historic figure, history really is at the heart of what we do.

At the start of 2022 Stanley Biggs moved into"The Old Library" in Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire, giving the brand a physical location.

Being the avid historians we are, we soon unearthed and restored its history and character. Many of the original features were brought back to life, including the original glass sign from the early 1920s, confirming the property began as a Clothiers & Outfitters.

As much as we loved the history of the property, it soon became apparent that the brand needed more room to grow....

We opened our new store August 2023. Located in the busy and historic town of Belper, that sits within the Derwent Valley in the Derbyshire Peak District, you can now visit the new store at 17 Bridge Street, Belper.

Another big change occurred in 2023. We became Stanley Biggs Clothiers Ltd.

Amazing what three little letters can mean but this marks the start of a shift for the brand, as we continue to build on what we have created.

The main focus for 2024 has been to expand our range, ensuring that we continue to work with the very best manufacturers and sourcing the finest quality fabrics for our designs.

Alongside the range, 2024 marks our fifth year of trading and the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, the battle that our namesake fell. Throughout 2024 we'll be announcing and launching special pieces to celebrate our fifth year and to commemorate the 80th Anniversary year since Arnhem.

Please enjoy the collections and feel free to join our journey on our social media channels.
